massage at peter conte?

i'm hoping to book a massage for my husband and myself sometime soon. i've passed peter conte salon on main street (matawan) a million times and keep meaning to try it out. we've been to avanti in manalapan and loved it, but peter conte is a little bit less expensive and a heck of a lot closer! has anyone visited the salon? i'd appreciate some suggestions. thanks!

I haven't been to Peter Conte, however I was given the name/number of a local woman who gives massages out of a Chiropractors office in Aberdeen. Supposedly for $50/hr. If/when I check her out, I will be sure to give you the 411.

I've been there for a few hair cuts and waxings. Didn't really like it. Haircut was not up to par and waxing was a mess. Beautiful salon though. Never had a massage there though. There is a massage place in Keyport. Cant' think of the name sorry.

i'm hoping to book a couples massage, so that limits us in terms of location. i was seeing dr. gloria perna for chiropractic work for a while, and i believe she has an in-house massage therapist. dr. perna is LOVELY, but her office is, well, a doctor's office. i'm into the whole massage "experience" - bring on the herbal tea and whale songs!!
dani, i'm surprised that peter conte was subpar! it seems like it would be a great experience, but maybe that's just because 1) it's a pretty salon, and 2) they are EXPENSIVE (for jersey).
i think i'll give it a try, but if it doesn't work out, there's always avanti.

I've tried a few "upscale" salons in the area (Peter Conte, one in Keyport, and one in Red Bank) and all I ended up with was bad waxings and disastrous haircuts. I found a very tiny salon in South Amboy I'm going to now. The cuts are ok for now. I'm tempted to go back to my old place in Maplewood despite the distance. Where's Avanti?

avanti is on route 9 south in manalapan (in a strip mall, of course). they had a pretty bad fire a while back, and reopened recently in their old space. it's been completely redone and it is GORGEOUS! here's the website:

i've only ever gotten waxings and massages there, but it's been consistently good. it's just that it's a bit pricey for my taste, but you do get what you pay for.
